Grass Stain Removal Guide

Grass stains are a mix of plant pigment and proteins, which makes them respond well to enzyme-based treatments rather than plain soap and water.

Clothing

  1. Turn the garment inside out and rinse the stained area under cold water to flush out loose plant matter.
  2. Apply a liquid laundry stain remover directly to the spot and gently rub the fabric together.
  3. Let the treated area sit for at least 15 minutes so the enzymes can break down the pigment.
  4. Wash on the warmest setting the care label allows, then check the spot before drying.
Safety note: Avoid using chlorine bleach on grass stains, since it can react with the pigment and actually set a yellow stain instead of removing it.

Carpet

  1. Blot the area with a cloth dampened in cool water to lift any loose grass or dirt first.
  2. Apply an enzyme-based stain remover directly to the spot and let it sit for the time listed on the label.
  3. Blot with a clean cloth until the green color transfers out, repeating the application if needed.
  4. Rinse by blotting with a cloth dampened in plain water, then let the area air dry.
Safety note: Test the enzyme cleaner on a hidden section of carpet first, especially on natural fiber or light-colored carpets.
